This one's really, really obvious.

I mean, the prophecy just comes out and says it. Rowling's a great author, but she isn't very sneaky.

And I suspected Snape from the beginning (well, the middle or so). Who else do we know that's

1) hostile (shove a bezoar down their throats)
2) violent (sectumsempra)
3) very, very good at Potions

I still don't think he's a "bad guy", even after what happened. Dumbledore's not the kind of person who'd be bothered by something wussy like dying.

P.S. Pratchett is my author of choice when I'm feeling downright silly. Rowling's much better for the deadly serious point of view. Interesting that they're both about wizards.

P.P.S. Voldemort's so a Necromancer. Inferi? Blood magic required to enter? C'mon!

*SPOILERS* and theories

Was discussing this with my friend last night. There is the theory (unlikely but you never know) that Dumbledore told snape to kill him. Why? Well let's see:
Hagrid lets it slip that he heard Dumbledore and Snape arguing. Snape mentioned he didnt want to do it anymore. Now this could have been he wanted to go back to a deatheater (yeah like you'd admit that to dumbledore) or because Dumbldore, having the wonderful mind he does, had found out about Malfoy's little task and Snapes vow, and insisted that for the good of the Order, Snape should carry it out. Also he'd probably have known that his death would cause more love in harry, hence making harry even more likely to seek out Voldemort.

Yes Snape is that evil looking guy with greasy hair (alan rickman; great actor ) and Dumbledore is the headmaster (and arguably the best wizard in the Harry Potter world) And basically the entire story is about this lad, Harry, who's parents were killed by the most evil wizard ever and is out for revenge.

Oh, and I'm scared at how well wang fits in there... raised wang? I'm almost convinced that J.K. Rowling was originally writing an 'adult' book then realised it would be more popular to be a childs fiction! lol

We'll just have to wait and see if his wand ever starts throbbing. God, I hate that word. Throbbing.

I'm still convinced Snape isn't a bad guy. Why? You want my theory?

Simple: Snape actually being a bad guy would do three things:

1) be anticlimactic, which JK Rowling would never do.
2) prove Dumbledore wrong, which would mean that Dumbledore's a fool - which he obviously isn't.
3) Disallow the opportunity for Harry to learn more about himself and his parents.

I'll bet you fifty bucks it ends up Snape was a good guy all along despite the trickery.

i agree Samarium, its like i was kinda miffed that although in movies/books i always wish they'd get rid of the old "omg look the guy that the hero was so close to is dead...but wait! no he was just unconcious! hooray and much cheering!" its just seriously annoying that Rowling was the one to finally break teh cliche... and in such a way!

Yeah, I love it. People die, it happens.

But I'm glad that Dumbledore will still be around (those portraits of previous headmasters seem mighty tricksy, don't they?) to talk to Harry every now and then.

But Snape would've been ejected from Hogwarts one way or another. He took the Defense against the Dark Arts position, and nobody lasts more than a year in that. Dumbledore put him there knowing that. It was a scheme I tell you, a scheme!

I found the book quite good again, better then last one (order of pheonix). The order's focus was largely around the Ministery. And all the fuz with Cornelius Fudge then was a bit boring, as well as Harry angry all time. Now they return to sanity a bit, taking the fight again up. There is some snogging all around, a bit to much, but the pace of the book is good. The reflections to previous times (voldemort) as well as countless references to previous potter books made this one quite interesting imho.

Well to be honest i was rather disserpointed in this book. Yes I have read the other 5 too. I thought they got better as they went along and the last one (ootp) was the best. But nothing basicly happends in this one unitl the last few chapters and by then i had all ready figured out who the HBP was. Was'nt that hard, I mean who else is THAT good at potions. Was'nt that hard to figure out who was trying to kill him either. And as the vow had been made it was obvious who was going to kill him.

I thought about that one for awhile after finishing the book. There's only one person I can think of mentioned in the books with those initials who had any connection to Lord Voldemort. I don't know about the "A", but if you just go by R.B.

Well, check back into Order of the Phoenix, the chapter entitled "The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black"

Go back to Order of the Phoenix, page 116 (US edition). You'll find some other information just dropped into the middle of a paragraph there too.

I'd love to get a close look at the Black family tapestry. And I'd bet that the "A" in "R.A.B." stands for Aldebaran, or Algol or Arcturus.

A few thoughts:

I don't think Dumbledore should have died, or at least died the way he did. That said, from his first appearence in the book onwards, I think it was obvious he was going to get it.

Too bad Rowling didn't play the Harry-Cho relationship again, even if it stayed a love/hate one. I don't disagree with his newer love interest, but I think I liked the old one better. On the subject of relationships, I think how things turned out with Ron and his GF were a bit too forced.

I don't think Snape is totally against Harry. Remember during the last battle Snape told Harry, "you won't beat me if you don't shut your mouth and close your mind." I think Snape is really on Snape's side; he wouldn't mind Harry killing Valdemort, but I don't think Snape would care if Harry died in the final battle as well. That said, I think snape should die in the next one, unless he is going to be the main villian in the post-hogwarts years.

Harry will be back at Hogwarts in the next book, I don't think he is ready enough for facing Valdemort or finding the remaining horcurses.

I thought the half blood prince would be Valdemort when I first started reading the book.

I don't think #6 is Harry himself. If he is, that means he'll have to kill himself in the next one to make Valdemort mortal again.
